Hotel Schgaguler

Winner of the 2015 competition, the project of the new Hotel Schgaguler redesigned the 1986 hotel which was in need of a complete makeover. The three monolith structures of the new building overlooking the Dolomites reinterpret the original design in a modern key, both in terms of style and materials used.
A modern take on local architecture – for example, the sloped rooftops – constructed using state-of-the-art technology solutions: the grey chalk external finish, reference to the rocks of the surrounding mountains, the crystal of the parapets, the industrial manufacture of the wood finishes inside.

Façades are designed based on the landscape they overlook: at north-west, towards the village of Castelrotto, the look is more sculptural; south, facing the mountains, deep frames create different shadow effects depending on the position of the sun during the day and the different seasons. The ground floor of the hotel is dedicated to common areas – lobby, restaurant, bar – and extends on the outside thanks to a spacious open terrace; beauty and wellness services (spa, beauty centre) are located at basement level.

The rooms on the upper floors are the perfect balance between tradition and innovation, with finishes made of local materials in a modern style.

For the hotel parapets the architects of Hotel Schgaguler chose Sistema Garda AP by Aluvetro, a line of glass and aluminium parapets with a minimalist design, offering great transparency, lightness, stability and safety.

Sistema Garda comprises different elements – frame, anchoring system, carter, stratified and tempered glass and, if needed, handrail: glass parapets are installed quickly and safely and provide a pleasing aesthetic effect, protection and are guaranteed to last (the frames are anodised, to resist in the most extreme weather conditions, such as in cities and by the sea).

For this project, among the many variations the choice fell on Garda AP, for which the glass is inserted in the floor, for a clean and transparent effect. The different options available include six tempered and stratified glass variations, as well as numerous chromatic combinations and different surface finishes, including colours and screen printing, semi-covering or shading – for extra privacy – which can be combined with led lighting solutions.

All Sistema Garda products are tested in laboratories approved by the Ministry of Public Works and have passed static and dynamic stress tests up to 4.5 kN/m (under up to 300kg/m); additionally, parapets have obtained the declaration of conformity in accordance with the current technical construction regulations.
